I think the holdback to having UND in the MVFC is not the nickname/mascot issue. The holdback is schools on the east side of the conference map are reluctant to travel west anyway and adding the far north leg to the trip is too much to get the votes for UND admission (the ongoing discord between NDSU (alums and fans?) and UND (alumns and fans?) doesn't help). If UND played football in the MVFC, what about the other sports? The Summit looks like the logical choice for the other sports but I have the impression the Summit, when considering expansion, will look more to what is closer to the middle of the geographic footprint. The obvious one is getting UMKC back into the SL. Some claim UMKC coming back is just a matter of time.

The nickname/mascot issue is a moot point as UND has dropped the Fighting Sioux nickname. They are officially known as simply the University of North Dakota now. With regards to the MVFC, I agree, it is the eastern schools that are against them joining. UND isn't that much of an outlier, it's only an hour past Fargo. I think it has more to do with not wanting to add yet another pwerful former NCC school to the conference. The MVFC is tough enough already. If Youngstown ever bolts, which they have been rumored to be looking at going to an eastern conference, or Mo State goes FBS, I could see UND becoming a logical replacement school. Personally I think they should be added and an east/west scheduling arrangement be implemented. SOmething like that could actually decrease the amount of travel for the eastern schools.
As for the Summit, we would be fortunate to have another solid school like UND. UMKC? Please. UND would be a huge upgrade over that school.

I agree. I do not want UMKC back in the summit. They do not really bring any value. If Oakland wanted back in that would be ok.
Is the Mo State FBS thing really a thing? They would be the last school in the MVFC I would think of going FBS. The east/west scheduling for the MVFC would be awesome along with getting all the old NCC'ers in the same division. Maybe even ask Northern Colorado to join the old NCC party.

What is wrong with the school being in the summit as i dont know the history or background. They should be ashamed that with the size and location of thier school they dont even have a FB team. It is kind of how i feel with KATO and St. Cloud not being FCS schools.

I wouldn't be too quick to write off UMKC. They've taken significant steps to upgrade sports and pay their basketball coach more than most Summit League coaches are currently paid. The school is a good school academically. They have a medical school, a law school, and offer other professional degrees including engineering and architecture. Sure, they had some people missing brains when they decided to move to the WAC but that'll fix itself. Personally, I'm not sure I want to deal with the NDSU v UND crap that continually goes on. I don't know who to blame in that controversy but we're stuck with NDSU so I'm not real excited about bringing in the other side to that fight (I'm not necessarily opposed either -- others with a higher pay grade make those decisions).

Intense rivalry or not UND is 100 times over the better addition to the Summit than UMKC. I don't see UMKC being any better than Centenary was taking out the geography equation. The Summit should look for schools like UND with a good athletic tradition to want to join.

Announced today that we are hosting Weber State in 2016 and visiting them in 2018. That makes the 2016 non-conference @cal, vs. Weber State, and @und.

2016 @ Cal @ UND Weber State
2017 UND @ Drake
2018 @ Weber State Northern Colorado
2019 @ Northern Colorado
2020 @ Iowa State
Am I missing any?

Can't wait for Glenn to come back to Greeley, he will be greeted with a hero's welcome. That being said, he may not make it until 2019.

I am not confident he will be leading the team four years from now. Regardless, cool to see a regional and previous NCC conference matchup continuing at the D1 level.

I know I'm a little bit late to the party but I'm stoked that our two programs will be playing each other in the coming years I think our teams have only ever met once before and it ended in a tie I think.
It's funny to think how close it came to actually being conference foes, but even though I would have loved seeing you guys in the Big Sky you guys are a perfect fit where you are now, makes me wonder how long it will be till North Dakota joins you guys, not that I want them to, but it would be a better geographical fit for them.
Good luck on the remainder of your season

Some talk that Cal may play Hawaii in 2016 in Australia on the same date they were scheduled to play the Yotes. If so, hopefully there was a good buyout clause in the contract.

I would be very disappointed in our AD if there wasn't a large buyout in place for cancelling on us. At the same time it would be very cool to get paid for the game and then still, hopefully, be able to schedule someone else.
The article above states that they are looking to schedule this game the week before everyone else starts, so on August 27th. Cal would almost certainly be forced to remove one of its current non-conference games to make this one happen - unless the NCAA were to allow Cal to play 13 games. All schools that play at Hawaii do have the option to schedule a 13th game (http://www.fbschedules.com/2013/06/the-hawaii-exemption-2013-edition/), but I don't know that playing in Australia would count. Cal currently also has non-conference games at San Diego State and at home against Texas.
