To the extent that we get paid, most, if not all of the "profit" that we would have made from Cal, I hope we don't have a FBS game and get a FCS counter instead. With Weber, UND and our normal MVFC schedule, our new coach will have more than enough adversity ahead of him. Berkeley would have been a fun destination, however.

I would rather not schedule FBS games but I realize that money is a factor so I can live with that. I hope the Coyotes just schedule a home and home contact with a FCS scholarship program. Any conference other than the Big Sky and I will be happy with it.

It's pretty difficult to make up a $300-$400k net hole in your budget....

I would rather double down and play FBS and get another $250-300,000 or so. We could use the money. We still get paid by Cal. Great opportunity to double down. Until our sometimes lethargic fan base (note - not the passionate ones on this board) steps up and either doubles giving to the Howling Pack, or for the love of God, actually sells out the Dome and buys tickets more than a few days before a game against SDSU (there were probably 800-1,000 SDSU fans at that game, the athletic department did everything to give USD fans a chance to buy tickets ahead of time... shameful we couldn't fill the dome with Coyotes) then we need the money. DDays sells out, obviously. But our fans need to step up and buy tickets, and give to the HP. We need to step up and pay the next coach $200,000 to $250,000 ... to do that we need some money. FBS and double down. I hope we get $800,000 between Cal and whoever we play.

Considering the Coyotes recent history I think USD should be thankful that they get as many people to come to the dome as they do. 4,000 per game used to be common place. I completely agree with paying the coach a good salary. Call it an investment. If that coach really turns out to be a winner than the ticket sales will go up as will the donations. Just having another gate for a home playoff game would be nice as well.

Just having another gate for a home playoff game would be nice as well. I thought the same thing at times last year regarding the number of fans showing up to games kind of being surprising. Even the spring game this year following last year's debacle had an impressive attendance in my mind. This year however there was no reason we shouldn't have at least 7500 people at each game. Didn't look at the figures and don't know if I could trust them anyways. There was good reason to go to all five home games though.

If they are going to try to still play a FBS opponent here are your best options. I have put an estimated athletic budget in parenthesis (USA Today), FYI USD has an estimated athletic budget of $15M. So...the idea "double dipping" on two big revenue games is not going to happen. I am guessing here, but they might be able to get $75-$100K to go play one of these teams. UNLV & Central Florida may be able to offer more. UNLV paid Idaho State last year $325,000.
Louisiana Monroe ($12M) 09/10 - at Oklahoma 10/01 - at Auburn 10/22 - at New Mexico
Middle Tennessee St ($30M) 09/10 - at Vanderbilt 09/17 - at Bowling Green 10/22 - at Missouri
Central Florida ($45M) 09/10 - at Michigan 09/17 - Maryland TBA - at Florida International (FIU Plays Indiana on 9/3/16)
Buffalo ($31M) 09/17 - at Nevada 09/24 - Army 10/01 - at Boston College
Eastern Michigan ($30M) 09/10 - at Missouri 09/17 - at Charlotte 09/24 - Wyoming
UNLV ($44M) 09/10 - at UCLA 09/17 - at Central Michigan 09/24 - Idaho

Personally would like to see Central Florida who we played a few years ago or UNLV.

Per Jeremy Hoeck's interview with Herbster (http://www.yankton.net/sports/article_bfb93bb4-97b8-11e5-a3f9-97d77d957280.html) the terms of the buyout with Cal are currently being negotiated and Herbster is working on finding a different FBS opponent for 2016. Also mentioned is that FBS deals have been pretty well locked up for 2017 and 2018 but are waiting until a later date to announce them. Previously announced was the Iowa State game in 2020.

I would like to see the Yotes play a FBS game against a program that they have a fighting chance to beat. I think UNLV would be a realistic test and a good game to schedule. It lets the kids experience Vegas for a bit, or at least see Vegas :-) Maybe experiencing Vegas wouldn't be so hot in a team setting.

If the game was at night which I assume it would be, it wouldn't be that bad and would probably dip to 95 :-)

We played there in 1976. Played in September at night. The heat on the field was brutal, I remember that very well. Since UNLV is a Nevada team there was no official "book line" but off street betting had us 40 dogs. We shanked a field goal at the end and lost by 2. It was a lot of fun.
