I wish we had just stayed the course and gone Big Sky all those years ago. The xDSUs would have been forced to follow by now. Forced to follow? That's funny! The Summit would have collapsed. I suppose you think going independent would have worked?

Midco drops Bally Sports North right in the middle of Twins baseball season. I was a longtime Midco loyalist but man they are really starting to suck. I look at my cable/internet bill and it is ridiculous and now they pull this? Bluepeak and streaming are looking better every day. Xfinity is by far the largest cable provider in the Twin Cities and they dropped Bally too. MLB has a serious problem with their regional sports networks.

Per Matt Brown's Extra Point Newsletter (you have to subscribe to read the full newsletter), Stephen F Austin may leave the WAC, which would bring the WAC down to 9 conference members, of which only 4 sponsor football. If that happens he has been told that multiple WAC members will explore other conference membership options. His newsletter states "Specifically, I’ve been told to monitor the Summit League as a potential destination for the Utah-based institutions..." There are 3 Utah schools in the WAC: Utah Valley, Southern Utah & Utah Tech (formerly Dixie State). Southern Utah & Utah Tech both sponsor football. There's two old Great West foes (SUU in football, UVU in basketball). Keep the memory alive! But seriously, if we can add a few Utah schools that would be good for the Summit. Makes a western bloc with Denver and opens the door for more western recruitment. Travel costs would be high but they always will be unless we are adding NSIC schools.

So reports we got 150,000 from Green Bay for buyout of Kayla contract. Plus we payed nothing to Idaho. Well played. Truly a perfect transaction for USD

First chance for our new AD to make a big decision and it seems like he nailed it. I have a much better feeling now than I did two years ago. Love when we can poach sitting D1 coaches (even if she only had 1 year at Idaho).

If Summit hockey comes to fruition, does that mean much for the other sports? I assume any new Summit members would be hockey-only members.

I would have been fine with Jewett but Eighmey has a strong resume. I'd be fine with her keeping Jewett on staff if she and he both want that. I do not want administration dictating who she hires as assistant coaches. This should always be the case. It would be demeaning and undermining for an administration to impose such a thing. If the coach comes to that conclusion on their own then that is fine.

I'm glad this embarrassing online saga is done. Welcome Coach Eighmey.

It's a joke. Historically bad franchise that is easy to dump on because they usually make all the worst decisions. Some things have finally been going right for them under Stefanski though.

herosports.com/fcs-playoffs-seed-16-bzbz/Starting this season the FCS playoffs will be seeded 1-16. Top 8 seeds still receive a bye. Seeds 9-16 host the first round playoff game. Second round will be 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, etc. This is excellent news as it should mean less regionalization (i.e. the MVFC cannibalizing itself while the crap teams out east get to play each other). It also helps erase the old question of who is going to host first round playoff games via the bid process.

That track around the football field looks like dirt and has at least one car on it. Did they pick up the track surface in the offseason? Surely they weren't running events on that?
I got to campus about 30 years after the Dome opened. It's nuts to me looking at this picture and thinking about how I should be able to see the library addition, Churchill-Haines, Beacom, and the Law School. About the only part of this picture that hasn't been built over is the playing field itself I think. When I was in school they did have a marker placed at the old 50 to help preserve some memory of Inman.
I feel like I've heard a story about that observatory in the bottom left corner. Something about it still standing somewhere else today. Does anyone know about that?

What do you mean? Vermillion has everything a student-athlete needs. A couple pizza joints, a Walmart, and a few hotels for the parents. haha I do feel bad for the WR group, but at least these last 2 WR coaches have been very high quality people and coaches. Unfortunately at this level you see a lot of movement because FCS is typically a stepping stone for FBS or guys that want to be head coaches at some point. But from a football facility standpoint, USD has it going on and plays in a dome which is huge for warm weather recruits. Plus $$ talks and kids will come if they are getting significant scholarship offers from a D1 FCS program, so a lot of the town amenities are overlooked when school is being paid for. Coach Nielsen has a ton of respect from his peers and obviously has done a wonderful job of holding it together through all the hills and valleys. I agree. The difference between the two towns is negligible to a student. I spent a semester at Daktronics on internship and it felt no different than being in Vermillion. The only thing they had that I missed after leaving was Taco Express but that has since disappeared. There's also enough incredibly successful schools in remote areas and awful schools in major cities to show that recruiting goes a lot deeper than a city's amenities.

Definitely true on the media market part. But the Valley doesn’t gain much within the KC or Omaha markets that is doesn’t already have. In Omaha you’re competing with Creighton and UNL for fans. Omaha has the facilities but lacks the fan interest at the moment. In KC you’re competing with Kansas, K-state, Missouri, Missouri state. You secure the market but are you really gaining league recognition. KC lacks the facilities and also the fan interest. It’s the same situation that the Summit is in, we have some big markets but no one really cares about the summit because there’s just no interest in the teams. Now if those two teams were to start continuously building buzz around their programs I think they get in to the valley. But i think the valley looks towards St Paul before it looks towards the others. When the MVC lost Loyola they added a pretty bad UIC program just to keep a Chicago presence. I think it has little to do with market share and more to do with profile and recruiting. It's a lot more attractive to have a team located in Omaha or KC than Vermillion or Brookings.
