No idea. It isn’t a huge secret, just not sure if I should share it. Will come out at some point anyway. The hiring is the bigger news. Lol man...stop dangling the carrot

Sorry, I should’ve just not mentioned the second part.
Anyway, there’s likely going to be a wrongful termination lawsuit. That’s it. That’s all I know.
I’d hope that the contract was written in a way to protect the University from crap like this, but again, I don’t know any of the details.

I have heard the same from someone who I believe to be a reliable source. Hopefully it gets settled out of the public eye so the athletics department doesn't end up with egg all over its face. He clearly pissed off someone important for it to go down like it did. I also hope it doesn't deter replacement candidates.

I think most of us assumed there would be some level of litigation of the buyout portion of his contract. It's one of the risks you bear with multi-year contracts. This may be the first time since these contracts were allowed that a coach has been fired vs. moving on? I know our foundation "guaranteed" the contract so I really hope that our fundraising is going for scholarships and not wrongful termination payments.

I certainly don't donate money for it to be used for that sort of thing.

Lee is going to sue for wrongful termination? F that. Lifting that ban I placed on talking about why he was fired. He wants to do that it's open season. He should have been fired last year for the crap he pulled off the court, but tough to fire a COTY.
As for on the court, I see good reason to fire him for his performance. Doesn't recruit well, constantly rebuilding the team in the off season with transfers and international players, doesn't bother recruiting the best player in the area from right down the road that wanted to come here, do I need to go on? We are no closer going into year 5 of winning the Summit than we were year 1. In fact, we're further away.

So it sounds like a decision could be announced soon?

So it sounds like a decision could be announced soon? That was my understanding. Very surprised that nobody seems to have an opinion on EP. I’ll admit I don’t know much about him despite him having coached here. Assistants often do the grunt work with regard to recruiting, but it would be nice to know which ones he was personally responsible for…

I would say EP has a personality and way about himself that he could sell himself and the program to recruits and more importantly, the parents of recruits. If our former coach would have came into my living room trying to recruit my kid, no thanks. In regards to specific athletes he recruited, I cannot answer that. I do know that he developed and worked with the bigs throughout his career. Tyler Flack had his issues but EP was one coach that could get Tyler out of his own head and play decent, in my opinion. Hagedorn and Burch-Manning were 2 other players he worked with at USD. He had pretty good success at Williston. If he can recruit decent athletes to Williston, imagine what he can do as a head coach at the U. Austin Hansen coming back as an asst coach would be a great pairing with EP. Let's face it, head coaches for revenue sports are as much fundraisers as they are coaches. Our former coach had the personality of a piece of sandpaper. Eric is reserved, but has a personality that will connect to donors. I was (and still) a fan of Smith and his staff and think we would be well served if Eric would come back and be our coach. Others may have a different opinion, but opinions are like... everyone has one.

I think hiring an Assistant coach from the University, though not currently, can be advantageous. Just my opinion.

He gets credit for the success of Neemias Queta, who was a total stud at USU and is now a Sacramento King. He was a dominant college player and an All-American. If EP is the guy, maybe we'll see some strides with Tasos and Zizic. The former had a really nice season, albeit inconsistent, while the latter rarely played.

Peterson was at Williston not Minot. Since the general opinion is since recruiting has been so bad the players we have now are crap? Surprising we were able to win any games at all. Whoever comes in I hope he keeps Kasperbauer as an assistant.

I don't want Austin Hansen anywhere near the program. It is imperative that Coach K stays in Vermillion.

I think there is a lot to like but I was hoping we’d go a different direction. You have to think Alan Huss for Creighton would be a slam dunk. Creighton lost every starter from last year, they got better as the season went on were dealt injuries along the way. I know mcd does some OC and DC type thing down their with his assists so I’m not sure if Huss was in charge of defense or not but their Defense was #1 in the big East and that’s with playing 3 freshman and a sophomore a ton of minutes. Huss would be my pick.

Whoever comes in I hope he keeps Kasperbauer as an assistant. I don’t think anyone is really implying that. I think there has been overwhelming disappointment at the lack of HS recruits that we have gotten though. To further that, we have also missed on 2 local kids- freidel and Bruns- that were in our backyard. I’m fine with transfers in today’s college basketball, but I think we should be pulling at minimum 2 recruits from the region out of HS every year. There’s a ton of good Hs players within a 5 hour drive of vermillion- MSP, Omaha, Lincoln, Des Moines, Sioux Falls, Rapid. So either we aren’t relating to those kids or we are lazy.
