WNIT > NCAA Summit Conf. Title > NCAA (Summit Tourney Title) Sour grapes, much? Since the WNIT is greater than the NCAA tourny the next time SDSU gets the automatic bid to the big dance they should be turning it down to go to the WNIT right? I guess I missed filling out my bracket for the WNIT/NIT last year and the coverage of all the games on TV.

I agree they have been competetive but they also pay a lot more money to their coaches, have more assistants to help with day to day and recruiting, and were able to not compete locally with other FCS programs other than maybe Northern Iowa. Having a tenured coaching staff in place helped. We do not pay our coaches, have fewer assistants to help in recruiting and day to day operations, and have no facilities or promise that they will come any time soon. What kid is going to choose that over seeing not only the financial commitment that the XDSU's are making in their staff but also their facilities. We currently have no competitive advandage. We will lose out every time because unlike the XDSU's when they jumped and were building their programs there was not the competition of other FCS programs like UND and USD trying to compete against the already established XDSU's.

The votes NDSU recieved were not earned. Unless they won 33 straight in FBS and I missed it. And beating a 2-7 Iowa State is not enough to think they can compete against big 12 and B1G teams week in and week out. Like I said a missed layup is what has kept USD from making the NCAA tournament the first 2 years they were eligable just like SDSU making it all the years leading up to USD being eligable. There is also more competition in the Summit league now then when the bunnies were first there. In 2009 the combined record of the Summit league after the top 2 teams was 88-150. They had an awesome year that year do not get me wrong. but name the last time anyone from the Summit league recieved an at large bid in either the mens or womens side? You must not live in South Dakota or read the Argus Leader because thats all I heard leading up to the tournament is how Wolters was the ticket to a run in the tournament.

I still respect all of the work you have put in coyotefan even if that is simply showing up to games. I am not in a place in life right now where I can donate 2k or 3K a year but show up to every single football and basketball game and get as many people as I can to come with me or get on sites like this etc. We still need you and want you there. I myself get negative about things the program or university have done in recent years but catch myself trying to find ways to funnel that into medians to make this thing work. If we always just agree with everything the university is doing and make everything positive when it is not, change will not happen or will take way longer than it should because those failures will be acceptable or tolerated. We just need to find a medium where the negativety is not destructive to the program and people that are always putting a positive spin on things come to the middle and demand changes in the areas needed.

If this snowball theory is the correct way of going about it then how are we so far behind in fundraising that the Dome renovation is not happening. State announced their stadium ideas and are starting the dirt work significantly faster than we did with our arena by using the opposite approach we are. Also, I know that this broad $250m campaign is not all for athletics but if we truly have $135m raised so far and the arena and track are projected at $66m how do we not have enough money to get the Dome renovation done. Without it we mind as well be playing flag football because we have not shot at competing without it. Thats how important it is.

I love the bubble/planet that SDSU fans are in. You also thought you were going to make a deep run in the NCAA tourney with Wolters a few years ago. Let me guess the only reason that didnt happen is because you played the eventual runner up in the first round. You are probably the people voting for NDSU to be ranked in the top 25 of FBS because they beat a 2-7 Iowa State team. Name the last time the summit league, or even when it was under the old conference name had an at large bid into the NCAA tournament. All of the buzz about SDSU getting an at large bid last year was created by local media and SDSU. It was very far from happening. I agree if it was possible the ladies tournament would be where it would happen. And it was a missed layup when we were down by 1 point. then SDSU sank 2 free throws if I remember correctly and then the missed 3 pointer.

I do not know for sure but I was assuming the same 94grad that the $18 million was part of the $20 million pledged by Sanford and the other $2 million is naming the training room etc. If it is seperate thats awesome. also why did it take this long to put something like this up. I love that we did it but we should have done it a year or more ago. Maybe then we would be doing the Dome renovation because of increased funds. I just feel like its a lot easier to raise money if you know something is going to be named after you. Even if that is something as small as a coaches office.

Should be a good year for both teams. If Flack can get healthy I am on board with the 20 win train everyone is talking about. I also beleive the ladies are going to win the regular season and league tourney this year. If it happens it will make the last second missed layup 2 years ago in the championshp game hurt a little more as I feel we have the momentum to steal away this confernece from SDSU on a regular basis. Especially if we pull in a couple good recruiting classes before the new arena.

The main problem we have right now is that we place too many past players and family members into coaching positions at USD and do not find quality caoches nationaly. I do not include Glenn in this statement as he has proven himself on the biggest stages before coming home. I disagree with you fightsd if we hire someone under the thought that they may be too good and end up leaving in 3-5 years becuase they have had so much success building a program at USD and that is a disqualifier for hiring them does not make sense. Instead we should place tons of ex quarterbacks and players in coaching positions that have never worked anywhere else and family members and friends of past alumni or coaches that have no proven track records because they will be passionate and stick around for longer is absurd. If that person has the type of success you are talking about they also will move one to bigger and better things becuase of that success regardless of their love for USD. Get the best candidate period. If Coach Smith wins the next 5 conference titles and makes the NCAA tournament 5 years in a row and gets an offer from a bigger school we both benefit from that. If we hire with the mindset that we want someone with past ties or someone that is going to stick around for 10 years we will get a candidate that more than likely is average at best and our teams will show that. Hire the best and if he leaves because of so much success you try to find another guy just like him. Worst case senerio then you hire some average guy thats going to stick around for 10 years.

Anyone know when some cement work will start? I'm guessing what they are doing now is the foundation pillars and from the video it looks like they have been on about every square inch of the site so some cement work seems to make sense.

I hate fair weather fans. If you're happy you didnt get tickets this year because of how the team performed then you dont deserve to be there acting like you have been a fan of the Yotes all your life when they do start winning. Win or lose we need to support them the same no matter how difficult that can be. I will also be at the last 2 games olifer as thats what we should be doing as "Fans". I'm fine with a negative outlook on the current situation because sometimes thats the only type of attitudes that create change but full support no matter what is needed. I also would love to see Glenn get a new staff and have one more year at it. I truly believe Glenn is not the problem. And saying that you're tired of excuses about facilities etc and just want change is BS. Tell that to the kids choosing NDSU and other schools with better facilities or the programs that have larger coaching staffs to build a program and recruit. They are not excuses but rather legit reasons change has not happened and until the university puts money into the program you could get Urban Meyer as a coach its still going to be very difficult to compete against schools with the large coaching staffs and facilities. All coaching salaries are on the state of South Dakota's website. I would encourage you to look at them compared to SDSU's. Glenn is paid significantly less than other head coaches. The assistant's at USD are paid almost identical salaries as SDSU. the only differnece is SDSU has a lot more assistants. It's not unreasonable to expect we could hire quality assistants from within the midwest when we are paying assistants the same as other schools. unless we pay another 80k-100k we will not find a better head coach than Glenn. Just not possible. Clean house with the assistants except Petrino as I think he has done a really good job with what he has and deserves to stay. Keep Glenn (if he even wants to stay at this point)as he is the best option for what we are currently willing to spend. If we want to be good everyone needs to be getting on the university to financially support the program for the first time in 40 years. It's going to happen from the top down. the best coach in the world cannot overcome the obstacles currently in place for coach Glenn.

I feel like it is unfair to say the university is investing in athletics with the new arena when they didnt move a blade of grass until almost all of the money was raised to build it. If they want to prove to a lot of people that following Coyote football is worth it again they need to make the investment in coaching salaries and other funding NOW and figure out a way to get the Dome renovations completed before 100% of the funds are raised. Other schools in the region of equal or smaller size get projects done in clever ways before raising 100% of the funds why cant we? The last I heard State's new stadium is being built without 100% of the funds up front.

First let me start by saying my intentions were not to be disrespectful to anyone involved with the current game day presentation. I know that sometimes my opinion and passion for the program comes out wrong or as a little too much, so I'm sorry ctc2010. I've seen quite a few football games not only at the FCS but FBS level and any of them that have had great gameday atmospheres do those additional things like playing more music during breaks and the right type of music etc. I understand the coffee cup deal is a sponsorhsip. But why cant the coffee cup race be announced over the system and then louder music be playing while the coffee cup race is going on. People can still watch it but then at least its not so quiet in the Dome you can hear cars driving outside. Its just not entertaining to watch a 45 second sandwhich race that has commentary. I also thought the YOTES, YOTES, YOTES, YOTES thing was really cool and could be something really cool to keep going as a tradition while the players are getting ready to run out of the tunnel. What ever happened to the coyote howl that would be played after a huge play or big tackle by USD? Thos are the small things that get fans into the game and more importatly players pumped up and recruits in the stands interested. You're right at the end of the day if fans are not willing to get involved there is not much that can be done about that. But we do not have to give up on trying to get them involved because some of them will get upset they have to cheer. Thats the attitude we need to change. I know that we have done a ton to improve gameday and it is significantly better than it was. but I'm tired of excuses and things holding us back. I'm tired of not creating some of the same atmosphere that state or NDSU have because we do not think its possible. I have been at every home game for the past 3 years and almost every game I hear a USD fan or visiting fans comment on the subway race and other things we do as not making much sense.

Not only do I agree with Glenn being the best coach we can get at the current time, I feel like he is a great coach period. Getting rid of Glenn would be a death sentence for our program right now. The lack of success is not on him. It's on the current limitations of the program itself. I do feel like we need to shake up some of the assistant positions at the end of the year, no qestions asked. If nothing else it will bring some fresh prospective into the program even if the candidate is on the same level of quality as the current assistant. I know I have asked this question before but have not recieved a response on it yet. I undrstand a lot of endowments are designated towards specific areas (educational scholarships etc). But when USD's endowment is around $180,000,000.00 and NDSU and SDSU endowments are both under $100,000,000.00 how can we not make the financial commitment needed to make us successful? I agree with obc. I'm sure/know the university did a ton of research into the move to D1. We had to know the costs. we had to know what it was going to take. We also know what type of money we have coming in and the support we have had for the past 150 years. If we were not going to have what it takes to compete in the MVFC then maybe we should have looked at the Big Sky. I have no doubt USD could compete in that conference right now. The 2 ranked teams from that conference we played this year were the 2 best games of this season. one win and one loss and both of those teams are competing for the Big Sky crown and currently ranked. I always brag about how smart/successful our alumni are compared to the other state schools. For being so smart it seems like we make a lot of poor decisions sometimes. Where do we funnel all of our money? I have a hard time believing that our endowment is twice the size of NDSU and SDSU(I know NDSU has made a huge commitment financialy to the football program itself) but that no one wants to give money to the athletic departments and its all designated to academics only. Maybe I'm completly wrong about that. If we were not going to do what it takes or have what it takes to compete then we should not have made the jump. I dont want to have 1-8 seasons in football for the next 30 years hoping that in 30 years we will have the funding to make it happen.
