Sounds like Rob Jeter is going to be the new head man at WIU. Personally I couldn’t be more excited he sounds like a perfect fit.

Kayla Ard has been named the Utah St head coach she took over for Denver this past season after there coach got in trouble. Is Turgeon back for DU or officially gone? I haven’t read anything about him being fired so I’m guessing he’s back.

Bennett grew up in the Valley and his parents still live there. Plus he's a great coach. Who wouldn't be interested in him? Apparently, Pitino was their first choice. Tim Miles is also getting some mention as someone they are interested in. Well it definitely would be a step down.

I actually thought they had improved quite a bit this year with a pretty young team. Fort Wayne or UND? I'll agree with you on Fort Wayne. I think Nelson is a good coach. She has probably the least talent on her roster than anyone in the Summit. Part of that is the shakeup and transfers after her administrative leave incident. If she can recruit a little, she will have some success in the Horizon, I think. As for UND, they regressed through the year. UND I thought was improved they were awful last year. Fort Wayne should be able to some what compete IUPUI won the Horizon tournament this season.

Totally missed this yesterday: Not a huge surprise. I was hoping the changes she had made would pay off. They were marginally more competitive this year than last, but it didn't translate into wins. Not good enough. This one is pretty disappointing.

They led the Summit. Not sure about nation. This year his strategy seemed to be: go fast and don't play defense. There is some talk on the UND board about upgrading size or talent on their roster. I think they actually have decent size and talent. Certainly better than their record would suggest. I think the right coach could turn that program around a lot easier than what Collins has had to do in Fargo. It will be interesting to see. While I like having the SD schools dominate the Summit, we need a better conference as a whole to raise our profile. Collins is doing that, and the attendance should follow. Fans actually care about this sport in the Dakotas, and having all four teams playing well will really raise the national profile IMO. Pretty sure I read somewhere it was one or two nationally. Anyway, agree with you 100% on the need for other teams to get better because, let's face it, although it's nice to appreciate the talent and skill of the players, blowout games really aren't all that much fun to watch. I'd trade one Drake game for a hundred Ft Wayne games. I actually thought they had improved quite a bit this year with a pretty young team.

Todd Lee got a 3 year contract. After these first 2 years, how in the hell does Lee ask Herbster for a contract extension with a straight face? The bottom line is this, everyone has had their opinion on Todd Lee since he was hired whether being positive or negative. Like most coaches he's had moments of success, and moments were Coyote fans look at each other wondering, "why did we hire this guy?" Nonetheless, here is my thought process on the whole should USD extend or not topic that seems to be going through everyone's mind. As most of you know, these seniors (minus Kelley) and Stanley are the last of the Craig Smith recruiting class. Which means next year will be Todd Lee's biggest test in my opinion. He will now have three recruiting classes of his choosing in the program and only one guy whom was here prior to Coach Lee taking the job at USD. Sure, we all agree Stanley is an incredible player, but what do you put around him to help take USD to the next level? That's the question I'm sure all of you are curious about. You see, SDSU has a very young team, and NDSU always seem to find themselves in the mix, and who knows what other teams have entering next year. The biggest question that will be answered next season is can Todd Lee's recruits be enough to get USD over the hump, or at least back into contention for a SL title? So should Coach Lee get an extension? Too me, let's see how next year plays out. Oru should be very good next year as well.

On the Rabbit board they are already looking to when the Yotes will lose Duffy. Remember Koupal, Hegge, Seekamp etc. They will be saying that about Krull and others in 4 or 5 years as well. It was also mentioned how it is likely we will lose our coach as well. Considering the rise of the Coyotes and them surpassing the Jacks I sense a little jealousy. They never thought any other program would touch them in the Summit. in there defense it does seem like Duffy has been there about 10 years.

Summit WBB Standings:South Dakota-------6-0 Won 6 South Dakota State6-1 Lost 1 Western Illinois-----4-2 Won 3North Dakota-------3-3 Lost 3Oral Roberts--------3-3 Lost 1 Denver--------------2-4 Won 1 Omaha--------------1-4 Lost 3 North Dakota State 1-4 Won 1 Purdue Fort Wayne 0-5 Lost 6 don't look now, but Western and North Dakota are trending in opposite directions. Looks like the Leathernecks have quietly been positioning themselves as the top of tier II. I'm glad we have already played them in Macomb. The Jacks might need to be on upset alert when they travel out there? Maybe leatherneckcountry could fill us in on if they have been doing anything differently lately. I'm not sure what is going on with ORU and Denver, but they have been underwhelming lately. This season could actually represent a huge opportunity for the Bison and Mavs to show some progress in their programs's turnaround projects. Will they be able to take advantage? we are quite an interesting team because we only lost one player from last year yet we have several players who are now getting time this year. Sam Pryor redshirted last year and she is now a redshirt junior but this is her 1st year of getting big minutes and she hit a couple big shots that probably won the Denver game. Then we have Carla Flores who redshirted last year as well and she has been starting since Annabel went down in the game against the yotes and honestly when she went down I thought we might be done. Carla is the best perimeter defender we have had in a long time Denver went 6-21 and ORU went 5-21 from three so we did a pretty good job on there shooters. Nelson and Loven combined for 12 points and there not beating any one with those kind of #s from those 2. Then we have Evan Zars who transferred from SLU who was eligible to play right away and that was huge it’s always nice having a big who can play in the middle of the zone. We have played both Denver and ORU at home and ORU we played after they traveled through the Midwest in the second game in 3 days with brutal weather. If we can beat at least one of them on the road then I’ll say that there’s a very good chance we can get that 3 seed we play at Omaha on Thursday and that game scares the heck out of me.

WIU was killing ORU through 3 quarters and let them make it more respectable at the end.

I think ORU is probably the 3rd best team there the best defensive team of the group. Then WIU we’ve battled injuries to start the conference season which has let others step up even though Annabel is probably out the rest of the season. Then Denver but Nelson and Loven better be better than they were last night. They have a couple of really good freshman. UND hasn’t really beaten anyone I think them and Omaha will battle for this spot.

One thing I noticed on offense yesterday: for many (most?) possessions, the ball often only goes towards the hoop on the actual shot. It is dribbled & passed around way out by the three point line and then someone shoots. What was odd is that they are often setting high picks, but not with the intent to get dribble drive/kick out plays - but rather to shoot a three or pass to the wing. Earlier in the year there were people cutting to the hoop, the point guards where driving (Chisom would get all the way to the rim), and defenses were getting a bit out of position, which leads to much easier shots. I’m pretty sure you just described WIU offense for the last 5 years.
