I am just glad someone, other than me, was old enough to remember the song.

I wonder if Walker will play in the WNIT?

I have no idea on what we are losing with Joy since injuries kept her off the court both years.
I really hate to lose Walker. She really could have used a red-shirt year as a freshman, but injuries to others forced her to play. She was starting to play much better towards the end of this season and was a force inside, but foul troubles really limited her playing time.
Grafton is only 40 miles from Grand Forks, but not sure why anyone would transfer to UND given the current state of their program. I thought they had turned the corner one year ago, but they really regressed this season and were a complete train wreck by the end of the season.

WNIT teams in our north-central region (that we could be paired with in the first couple of rounds): Minnesota -16-15 #66 UNI --------16-15 #96Montana ---22-9 #97Wyoming -16-14 #118 Illinois St -21-11 #121 USD ------18-12 #139 (D1 opponents only)N Colorado 15-15 #170
Green = teams we have beaten this season Red = teams we have lost to this seasonI forgot we played UNI in the regular season, so not likely we get paired with them in the first round.

Who wants to take bets that we draw Minnesota in the opening round? With a 48 team field, 16 teams get first round byes. Minnesota has a NET of 66. I am guessing they get a bye and wouldn't be real surprised to see the Bison also get a bye. My guess is the USD will play UNI and the winner will play Minnesota.

I am using strictly NET for my analysis just to keep things simple. The NET for the top 4 Summit League teams are: SDSU - 55, NDSU - 110, ORU - 135 & USD - 139.
With all the conference championship games completed, there will be 6 teams advancing to the NCAA tournament with a NET higher than USD's NET of 139 and 2 auto-bids to the WBIT with a NET higher than 139.
The NCAA will take 62 teams with a better NET than USD & the WBIT will take 30 teams with a NET better than USD. That should leave 46 teams with a NET better than USD available for the WNIT field. 8 teams with a NET worse than USD have already accepted WNIT bids, leaving 40 available slots.
NDSU might sneak into the WBIT, but likely ends up in the WNIT. USD & ORU are both on the WNIT bubble. If it were just USD, they might sneak in based on past reputation, but the WNIT committee likely won't take USD without also taking ORU, since ORU beat USD comfortably twice during the regular season.

First item is for the portal, which officially opens tomorrow, to treat us well. No key losses and pickup an addition or 2, perhaps a Carlton Hurst type. Also, hopefully Boston Holt decides to complete his MBA degree rather that going pro oversees.
Second, will need to replace at least one coach, as DBO Casey Bruggeman will be leaving to take the head coaching job at Jamestown.

With 5 conference championship games left to play, there are only 6 regular season conference champions that won't advance to the NCAA tournament and will therefore receive an auto-bid to the WBIT. My best guess is that there will be at most 3 add'l auto-bids to the WBIT. That leaves at least 23 at-large bids to the WBIT.
The WNIT gives an auto-bid to the team finishing the highest in the regular season standings of each conference. There are 32 conferences and I am guessing that after the NCAA & WBIT selections, there will be at least 6 conferences and likely more that will not accept an auto-bid to the WNIT. That should leave at least 22 at-large spots for the WNIT.

Here is my proposal: 1) Play the play-in round and quarterfinals on campus with the higher seeds hosting. 2) Men's play-in game(s) at the higher seed on first Wednesday after regular season & women's play-in game(s) on Thursday. 3) Men's quarterfinals on first Saturday after regular season with the top 4 seeds hosting with each game assigned a tip-off time. Game 1 @ noon, game 2 @ 2:30, game 3 @ 5:00 & game 4 at 7:30. Midco/SLN broadcasts all games and hosts a half-time & between games studio show. Same format for the women on Sunday. 4) Men's semi-finals on Friday night at the Denny. Game 1 at 5:00 & game 2 @ 7:30. Men's championship on Saturday at 7:00. Semis on either Midco/SLN or CBS Sports & title game on CBS Sports. 5) Women's semi-finals on Saturday at the Denny. Game 1 at noon and game 2 at 2:30. Women's championship game on selection Sunday at noon. Semis on either Midco/SLN or CBS Sports & title game on CBS Sports.
Change the ticketing process so that fans for the teams playing in each game get first shot at equal number of tickets for each fanbase of all tickets between the baselines, including those in the Premier Club.

Sioux Falls does a great job hosting the SLT. SDSU fans always show out in force and SDSU has had incredible success on both the men's & women's side of the tournament. The SDSU crowd size and success feed off each other. However, any team that is playing SDSU, including USD, will always feel like the visiting team. The vast majority of the seats between the baselines on both sides are always primarily full of blue clad fans. This was once again the case in the women's game yesterday, with most USD fans relegated to seats in the corners beyond the baselines. Fans from all schools, including USD, would be more likely to attend if more of the seats between the baselines were made available to the fans of both teams playing in each game. The 4 day format (5 for those in the play-in game) also makes it difficult for those traveling any distance to attend the full tournament.
Commissioner Fenton has stated that student athlete experience is a priority in deciding where the tournament is held. The current format & ticketing arrangement provides for a great experience for the SDSU student athletes and to a lesser extent to the USD student athletes. However, how great is the experience for any games not involving SDSU or USD? The 3 best games of the tournament so far this year; KC vs Denver on Saturday night, UND vs Omaha on Sunday night & Omaha vs Denver on Monday night, were the last game of each session and the second half of each game was played in an almost empty arena.

I also hope Meyer stays. I want to beat the Jackrabbits because we have got our game back to the level we are accustomed to and not because SDSU has become less talented. Our goal has never been and should never be to just get the March Madness auto-bid. but to do some damage once we get there.
