Was reading the weekly MVFC notebook and I see whoever is in charge of putting this together forgot to include USD's 2010 win at Minnesota on page 2 where it denotes conference wins over FBS teams in the last 5 years. Also noticed that in the USD section we have hardly any information entered. As a long time reader of these weekly releases I can tell you there is ALWAYS something to write about concerning each team. Step it up Mike Kern, Patti V. and company, the MVFC can do a better job. Not impressed. Here is the link for your review: cdn.streamlinetechnologies.com/mvc/8F9BC8FE-6236-4932-A556-354A0B9290EE/MVFC_9-7-2015.pdfPerhaps they didn't list the FBS win because USD wasn't a member of the MVFC in 2010. That's what I was thinking. MVFC isn't going to tout a victory for a team that was wearing Great West patches on their jerseys at the time.

Good points, even for jackal. My bad. I'd still argue that a school's FBS win record should travel with them as all other stats and records certainly do. For example, I have seen NDSU brag about their number of National Titles that include those earned pre-FCS. Don't see anyone talking about conference affiliation there. Anyway, can we please remove the 2011 Pierreyote thread. Still not sure why it has remained at the top of the list since 2011.

Also, now that I think of it, I have read MVFC weekly updates that actually talk about previous titles of schools earned in other conferences before joining the Valley. All the more reason to include the win in the 5 year look-back.

YSU in OT with Rober Morris? WTH?Jacks roll SUU. Right? What is YSU doing in overtime with Robert Morris? Hope this means they aren't quite what I expected and that we can take them down on D Days.

The post is stickied because it contains the links to all the conference members message boards. He gets credit because he did the work of putting it together. I will, from time to time, edit it with updated links to keep it current.

Got it. Always wondered what was going on there since the last post was October 11, 2011. Makes sense though. Thanks 53. Hoping now the folks at the league office at least have some more to write about concerning USD than last week's entry. Bouma certainly made a case for himself for Offensive POTW honors.

Can somebody fill me in on why Youngstown is ranked at #16? Not knocking them yet or anything, I was just looking at the polls trying to figure it out. 4-4 in the Valley last year with the only big win at SDSU. This year, losing to an average Pitt team and taking Robert Morris (??) to OT and escaping with a win.

Preseason rankings are always garbage. Did I see NDSU at #2? They lost to an FCS team already and are ahead of plenty of undefeated schools. I also see UND at 2-0 with an FBS win sitting at unranked probably just because they started the season unranked. Polls are dumb. The coaches have no time to watch the rest of the nation and put together a good top 25

These rankings tend to be better than just looking at the coaches or media poll. sagarin.com/sports/cfsend.htmwww.masseyratings.com/cf/compare1aa.htmThe massey is one of the better for FCS football, and it has YSU at #19 and USD at 44 FYI. However, like any poll or rating, the picture becomes more clear as the season goes on. Other interesting rankings UND #42 UC Davis #84 Drake #85

For YSU, the reason is simply Bo Pelini and YSU has name recognition. I guess that Robert Morris game was a sloppy mess played in a downpour of rain. Still 4-4 in the Valley really does mean you have one of the best 20 FCS programs in the country. All FCS is not created equal and there are only a few top level conferences, with the MVFC right now being at a level on their own at the top the last couple of years.
I have no problem with NDSU being ranked so high. Sure, they have an FCS loss but do you doubt they are one of the top programs in the country? I don't.
UND beat an incredibly bad Wyoming team Bad, bad. Then followed it up by escaping Drake, a non-scholarship PFL team. Yeah, we play them this weekend and I will be disappointed with nothing less than a dominating blowout win for the Coyotes. Drake is a mid-D3 level quality team with name recognition due to their basketball program. We will find out how good UND is this week when they travel to the FargoDome. I'm split on that game, I so badly want the Bison to assert Valley dominance over UND to the point where UND fans have to admit this conference plays at another level. Yet I don't mind seeing NDSU being taken down a peg and I have a soft spot for UND, a team we partnered with through transition. Ehh, I'm going with conference loyalty and NDSU in this one.

It will be fun to see regardless of who wins. Still can't believe UND agreed to go there twice with no return trip. Only way they can salvage dignity there is if they can at least win one of the games.

Only way they can salvage dignity there is if they can at least win one of the games. This game is huge for UND and the future of that series. They have one more game scheduled with them four years from now. Lose badly in embarassing fashion this weekend and they will cement themselves clearly as inferior to NDSU. Nobody will be clamoring for this to be an annual series like they are now. Lose a tight classic game, or even pull off the upset, and the Bison may be cancelling contracts in order to get them on the schedule in less than 4 years. I find it fascinating to follow the goings on up north. I look at the USD/SDSU relationship and see this year also as a must win for the Coyotes. We have to stem the tide of SDSU dominance in our series. With them building that new football facility I feel them pulling away again. We need to win this game now, the timing is important, and then go on a Dome renovation remodeling spree of out own to keep pace. The parallels between these Dakota rivalries is interesting.

UND is currently a 27.5 point dog on 5dimes. I think NDSU wants to put them in their place. 27 maybe seems a little high, but I wouldnt be surprised to see a 30 point blowout either.
For reference, USD is favored by 17.5.
