Andrew Van Ginkel will be transferring to Iowa Western. I am not sure if he is already gone or will be transferring at the end of the semester.

IWCC is a JUCO. Does he have grade issues?

Must be wanting to go FBS after a JUCO year or something. This one really stings. Wonder if he would have stayed if Glenn hadn't retired.

Wow, if true this is a bad loss. AVG was our best Dlineman and will be even thinner if he leaves. If you go from D1 to JUCO, would a player get to play immediately at JUCO, and then be able to play right away after they transfer to a new school? I am trying to understand his reasoning of going to JUCO rather than stay or transfer to a larger school. I’m guessing it would be to avoid sitting out a year. I hope you are wrong on this one Yoda.

When transferring to JUCO or any school in a lower division the player does not have to sit a year. JUCO transfers also do not have to sit out a year wen transferring back to the NCAA, which differs from when a player transfers within their division or to a higher one. Being that Van Ginkel already used his redshirt season he probably isn't too keen on sitting out a season that would count towards his remaining eligibility, hence the JUCO route that would see him able to play a full 4 years with 2 of them potentially being at the FBS level.

Wesley Beschorner was his primary recruiter.

Jay Elsen confirmed via twitter. Plenty of opportunity for some young guys to step in on the D-Line. Makes that position all the more important in this recruiting class.

Not sure what the end goal is with this move. If the kid is thinking about a pro career someday then USD and the FCS is a way he can get there, that is proven.

I will wait for official word, but if he is transferring solely to go to the pros it has been proven that if he is good enough he would get that chance at USD. Who knows, maybe he did not vibe with Nielson, or maybe he had a dream to play for U of Iowa or equivalent. Who knows, but I wish him the best and appreciate the time he played at the U. He could have went down as one of the best defensive players ever.

Ouch....IWCC does get major FBS interest every year and is one of the premier JUCO programs in the nation. He will definitely get to perform in front of nearly every P5 conference school playing there and has a very high likelihood of getting a FBS scholly opportunity if cracks their starting line-up. Him being from Iowa helps them out as well as there are roster requirements of having a certain % of players be from IA. All in all, just a bad, bad, bad event for the Coyotes. AVG would have been one of the premiere players in the MVFC, and all of FCS for that matter, for the next 3 years.
Good luck to the young man though, i wish him the best.
