Wasn't me who locked that thread but I would guess it was locked because it belonged on the Bunny Board and not here.

So a few updates on this story. Looks like AVG has already picked up some early offers from Minnesota and West Virginia. He's done that without playing a snap for Iowa Western. Wonder what they are basing these offers on? Hmm, maybe his performance at USD. Just another reason for all freshman to be redshirted or ineligible to play collegiate athletics. Academics being the #1 reason of course .

Wish him the best, but had he ended up at UNI or something I would have been unbelievably bitter. Clearly a guy above the MVFC and FCS though.

Still bitter about it. Not really excited for him.

Geez, maybe time to let this one go. Still confused on why hes playing a year at a Juco though. Why not spend a year working out with a D1 program?

The irony is that he probably would have really liked the new coaching staff too. I understand wanting to play for Iowa too though.

There is a lot that can happen between now and his first practice with Iowa... When we jump the fence for greener pastures, we often find we had it pretty good where we were.

I really couldn't care less how he does at Iowa. Seems like, or at least when it first came out he was leaving, some people were excited about the chance to watch him play there. I am not. But I agree. Seems like he went about it the wrong way. My best guess is that the interest in him wasn't there from Iowa at the time. Now, after they have their recruiting class solidified and the dust has settled, they reached out to him.

He was under scholarship for the 2nd semester at USD and does not have the option to enroll or speak with other coaches at another 4 year college without the athletic departments permission. So, he would have to wait until the end of the semester after his obligations were fulfilled and then go seek other colleges for scholarship offers. Very risky move. The loophole is transfering to a JC, which he is obligated to be there for 2 semesters, and not losing a year of playing football. Much safer route.

As you all know I am also an Iowa fan and follow their recruiting, etc. The funny part is, Iowa fans see him as just another player who may contribute at some point. Frankly, they have a point. As good as we think AVG is, when you look at his measurables he is just an average DE for a school like Iowa who has just as good, or better, prospects at the position. It may very well turn out that AVG could be just another contributer at an FBS school that fights for playing time and does little but build depth at the position, he could be a star, or he could have already played his last meaningful snap of college football. One never knows.

I thought the consensus on this board was that the administration supported his decision. Pretty sure a current player got on here and said that. Would that not be considered permission? But I wasn't aware of the rules on this, so I appreciate you posting them.
