Great article! Thanks for posting the link. Thanks Flagship. Some good things going on at South Dakota. Shout out to my Twitter buddy Coach Middleton, a recruiting wizard. Good man. USD's recruiting prowess is incredible and I think we're starting to see the fruits this year. They cast a wide net and do a helluva job. I'm in Florida and they're getting kids from my neck of the woods, like Jakob Parks -- who literally played 20 minutes from my house.

Jakob's a badass who played at CCC, which my wife and I literally drive by frequently. CCC has been a solid program down here in the Tampa area for years. He's a near 4,000 yard career passer and doesn't F-up when it comes to mistakes (INTs). I think he'll do well there, and I think the fact that USD got a guy like this from skill-talent rich Tampa? If you want a message of what's happening in Vermillion? That's a message. USD recruiting has been going for the jugular in recruiting for 24 months. My take.

My son being in Verm still throws me for a loop but here we are now with almost a season in and all I can say is the picture they painted is the picture it is. I could not handle these coaches work load with preparing a team sand also hitting the recruiting trail. They were at our house over 8 hours away 5 or 6 times!!! Wow!!! These guys know how to work and I think they expect no less of the players!

What does everyone think. Is this Parks guy good enough to unseat Simmons in the next 2 years. Is Parks a 2018 recruit or 2019? Sure seems like a big time player.

Thanks for the post, and you're a favorite follow on twitter for FCS football. Don't mean to drift the thread, but we do have a stable of QBs. Simmons, Tsagalis, Parks. I like Simmons a lot, and if someone beats him out, it's going to be crazy fun.
Again, we appreciate your post, like our chances of a long run in the PLAYOFFS.

If there is another QB on the roster capable of beating out Simmons then I am very impressed with what we have recruited at that position. I think Simmons is pretty dang good. The kid only came off the bench after Strev was injured the first series of the SIU game and won. Keep in mind he was probably getting majority second string reps throughout the week and still led the team to a 49-0 victory, this coming off a road loss to ISUr and the distractions of the player suspensions. I would say he is a pretty capable QB..

He has a cannon of an arm and a ton of talent and should probably break some of the records Strev set this year. However your comments about him only getting second string reps are not true. I know for a fact that Simmons get about as many first string reps as Streveler does. This coaching staff is not stupid. They know that with the way Strev plays he is going to need a breather, thus Simmons get a lot of first string reps. Simmons' challenge is going to be the mental aspect of the game. He is going to have to work hard at getting himself up to speed. His cannon arm will cover a lot of sins but wont cure everything. The other QB's on the roster are going to have to rally impress this staff if they hope to unseat Austin as the starter next year.

Keep in mind he was probably getting majority second string reps throughout the week and still led the team to a 49-0 victory, this coming off a road loss to ISUr and the distractions of the player suspensions. I would say he is a pretty capable QB.. I had the chance to spend about an hour with a player one year removed from the team while on a road trip this year for the Yotes. He told me that he and every player he has stayed in touch with believe and often comment how good Simmons is, and are of the opinion that as good as Streveler is (tremendous leader, elite speed, elite toughness) - Simmons is enough of a better thrower than Streveler that he is just as hard for a defense to defend. He also commented that defenses will play Simmons differently than Streveler and that because of that Simmons may actually be as effective running. He put in in perspective saying that in his opinion Streveler is the best running QB in the MVFC. He said it may be close for a number two between several others. His belief was that Simmons has more of a smooth running style like TC and we could expect Simmons to run like him. He went on to tell me that just like defenses now are paranoid that Streveler will rip off a 75 yard TD run on virtually any down and distance - after some time of scouting Simmons they will realize he has a cannon and accuracy at an elite level and will have to cover the entire field. By being forced to do that, the receivers will have some match-up advantages. His prediction for what it was worth was that the MVFC and fans at large will be surprised when they expect a huge drop-off because a player of Streveler's caliber graduates, and the offense is just as effective in 2018 as this year. He did mention that he would rather try and tackle Simmons than Streveler. (I would have guessed that) Was interesting to hear his perspectives.
