Some news outta the D1 Council today. We could be seeing Aspen Williston suiting up in the next games.

I think Coach P is more concerned with securing quality opponents than insisting they come to SD. This is not a normal year, in case you didn’t notice. I’m thrilled they were able to salvage the game. Besides that, road wins are worth more than home wins in the NET formula. I’m more disappointed that we missed out on scheduling more regional teams like Drake, Creighton, UNI or Green Bay. I can’t remember the last time we played UNI. *edit: Dawn has never scheduled UNI, but we played them every year under Amy, and twice in the 2016 season (WNIT). Oh well. I'd also like to see Iowa State schedule us again. They have a great fan base that travels. Coach Fennelly needs to swallow his pride and come back to Vermillion and take his beating like a man. It will only help his RPI(NET).

Can't remember if it was on the latest YoteCast or somewhere else, but I did hear that the Sooners will visit the SCSC next season.

I was kinda disappointed we didn’t at least have one of the 3, Drake, Missouri state, or Creighton. Those 3 are always fun games, and there is a little rivalry with Drake and Creighton. I don’t mind Dawn’s scheduling tho, she knows what’s she doing. The regional mid major games are fun but they don’t get you the at large. I am curious why we have so many less games then SDSU... is the staff just trying to play it safe to reduce the potential exposure aspect? Or is Brookings some how more appealing then Verm? The two teams I would love to see us start playing in the future are Minnesota and Nebraska. Enough time has passed now since Amy left that I think that would be a great game for both teams.

Last time we played the Goofers the women put up a 100 spot on them, not to metion the men beat them in the last meeting as did the football team. I don't think they'll be taking our calls anytime soon. Nebraska...Amy won't touch the "yotes with a 10 foot pole. Too much to lose and nothing to gain. You are correct in that they would be super games to schedule though.

I have no idea, but my guess is that because we very recently played many of those teams, the more limited number of non-con games made it harder to play them again? I'd love to know from someone with more inside information. I may be able to find out something this weekend... I agree that Dawn has done an amazing job with scheduling. Getting Green Bay here, I'm sure has something to do with coaching connections. I think that if this were a normal year (No Covid) we would have been looking at a doozy of a non-conference schedule. As it is, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Bradley and Gonzaga were pretty darn good. I agree that scheduling the regional mid-majors that are really good isn't without risk (more punishment than reward in the polls/rankings), but there are so many x-factor benefits, too. We recruit the upper-west Midwest heavily in women's sports. So playing in those places and recruiting those places go hand-in-hand. We beat the mighty Green Bay in Green Bay last year..... and we picked up a recruit there, recently, too (Carley Duffney) We split a H&H series with Drake over the last two years..... and we picked up a recruit from the Des Moines metro (Grace Larkins) We destroy the Gophers several times in Minneapolis recently.... and we have picked up several top recruits from MSP (Sjerven, Guebert, Carson, Mazurek, Juhnke in VB, etc.) We play in Omaha frequently, and recruit that city hard. I hope that UMKC and St Thomas will give us even better exposure in KC and MSP (in all sports). We should be playing in Rapid City and Denver more, too.

Just received a text from the athletic department that the women's basketball games against Omaha have been cancelled. That will mean in three weeks time they will have played a grand total of two games. Not a good way to stay sharp. Seems like Omaha has been the school that has been doing the most cancelling this season. Wonder what they're doing wrong that the other school aren't?
