Because you treat the fall like the spring and have fall ball in place of games. Also, because I doubt there will be games in the spring and players can't go an entire calendar year without practicing their sport.

At about the 25 second mark of the attached Twitter video, SD State coach Swig says 2021 spring season opening date will be February 20 .

Was it ever clarified whether there would be a non-conference season in the spring? I'd guess there really wouldn't be time if there are to be playoffs with a season starting at that time.
Lol coach Swig

NDSU just scheduled a game against Central Arkansas in Fargo on 10/3. Really curious what that means if they plan on playing in both spring and fall. It makes sense to practice and play as much as you can to get a step up on the competition.
Is the NCAA ever going to step in and provide guidance on what teams can/can't do, or are they staying the course and just hoping everyone comes to the same conclusion eventually?

If NDSU is playing I see no reason why USD shouldn't schedule a game or two. Heck, no reason the Dakota 4 can't just play each other this fall.

I will reiterate. USD needs to schedule a game or two for this fall. NDSU playing just increases the gap between them and everyone else in recruiting, brand visibility, and everything else...like they need the help. USD needs to pursue this as well. Hell, even Missouri State has a game scheduled.
BTW, 3 days until Central Arkansas vs Austin Peay kickoff. Football is happening this fall, just not for some teams. Self-inflicted.

I agree that I would like to see USD play this fall for the reasons Yote 53 listed as well as the ability to get a new quarterback some game time before and if they play conference ball in the spring. Does anyone know who is or has made the decision about playing a non-conference schedule this fall? If so, do you have any idea what information weighed the heaviest in making the decision?

Interesting note. I have not looked at every schedule but the Coyotes and Sycamores don’t get a bye week. Our so called bye is April 17th. If we qualify for the playoffs that’s when we get the bye. Indiana States so called bye week is Feb. 20th.
Game at Grand Forks is on a Thursday. Travel on a Wednesday. Interesting.

Now that a season has been established, has anyone heard what, if anything, is going on with the football team practice wise this fall? Is it going to be like normal spring practice and is there going to be "spring game" held? It'd be nice to hear something.

Believe they start practicing again soon and a “spring” game on practice 15 in about a month.

Assuming fans would be allowed, those first 3 games would have been ones I could attend but are instead on weekdays. Very curious decision.
