I would assume they'd be played in the evening though. 7PM kickoff?

It’s because of the basketball scheduling. Can’t have football and basketball games going on at the same time. I’m not gonna complain at this point considering 2020.

We have absolutely had football and basketball games at home on the same day before.

The 2 Friday night games and the 1 Thursday night game are huge opportunities to attract a large TV / ESPN+ audience and for the 2 Friday night games to show off the renovated dome. All 3 games could very likely be the only college football games being played on those nights.

My assumption may have been incorrect. Listen to this week’s Yotecast. Herbie explains the scheduling.
I for one am not super upset by Friday night games. But I only live 55 miles away. I put in my PTO requests for those Friday afternoons today and plan to be there and will just be happy we are having games inside the beautiful newly renovated Dakotadome.

Honestly I think we should just be thankful that we are having a season period with a post season to follow. Basketball did not get that post season and IMO basketball should not have to accomodate football since it is basketball season. Imagine if this Coyote football team went 7-1 or 8-0 (which is the equivilent to the women going 30-2) and could not go to the playoffs. There would be a lot of hurt in that. How lucky are we to have so many domes in the MVFC. Some of those February and March outdoors games are going to be brutal. In this part of the country those months tend to be much more brutal than November and December. I love outdoor football but how nice is that Dakotadome gonna be in mid to late winter. I would not mind a day where the Coyote football team played at the beginning or end of a basketball double header. Imagine 3 games in one trip to Vermillion. That would be about 8 hours of sports in a row.
Now we will get to see who will be that stud quarterback that will step up to lead the team. I would really like to see one QB and one RB really step and up take that #1 spot and never look back.

Lets take a look at the schedule to see how this will play out.
Feb 19th - vs Western Illinois - imagine if the host was switched and this had to be played in McComb in mid February. These two teams were made to play in good conditions and thank goodness that will be reality.
Feb 26th - vs UNI - The Panthers are a team that would be better suited to play outside IMO. We have another game at home in February guaranteeing that the Coyotes will not have to play outside in February. We are very lucky to have the first two at home. This team is better fit to play indoors.
Mar 4th - at UND - wow another break. The first 3 weeks are all indoors. The game is never easy in Grand Forks but 3 straight weeks of indoor football is a big break.
Mar 13th - at Indiana State - OK so this one could be tough but it is getting closer to mid march and Indiana winters probably aren't quite as bad as SD or ND. ISU-B is getting much better so getting a win will be a challenge.
Mar 20th - vs NDSU - lets face it this game is usually not going down in the win column. But that is 4 of the first 5 weeks indoors.
Mar 27th - at Illinois State - this one could be a bit brutal and the weather could be rough but not necessarily so. Winning in Normal is never and easy task.
April 3rd - vs Missouri State - indoors with a game that could probably go either way. Another indoor game
April 10th - at South Dakota State - Wow imagine if this game were in February. It is an outdoor game but maybe in mid April we could be looking at a nice spring day which might be 50 for SD standards.
All in all this is not a bad schedule. 1 or 2 iffy outdoors games at most. The first two at home and another indoor road game early in the schedule.
4 or 5 months later and the next season will start. Sacrifice now and get a hell of a stretch of football later.

The one really nice thing about those outdoor games in March & April, is that IF the sun is shining, it should have much more “juice” than a November sun would and feel much warmer than the actual temp. Think of how many times in late February the temp is 25 but the sun is shining and snow is melting off the road. That will help sitting in stands outdoors. So as long as it isn’t actually a blizzard, it has potential to work.

Not to be argumentative but why do you say UNI is better suited to play outdoors? Footnote: Average tempature for Terre Haute on March 13th is 50. Last year was 54 degrees. Average tempature for. Normal, Illinois on 3/27 is 55 degree. Last year was 56 degrees

Just looked up a Brookings as well for April 10th. Average temp is 53 degrees. Last year was 51 degrees
All games very doable if temps are near historic averages

Yes. February could have been questionable but those are all indoors. Plus 30-40 degrees in March feels way better than it does in November because the sun would be present and increasing the heat index.
Weather shouldn't be anymore of a concern than a typical season. Blizzards could happen but that isn't any different from a normal year.
It stinks to know our best case still is a spring season as the entirety of FBS has pledged to resume this year, but hopefully our delay means we get to attend games that we maybe otherwise couldn't have if they were happening right now.

Hadn't seen this, but I guess it's inevitable with how goofy this season is. Collins was a good player and leader and seemed to be a good person and representative for USD. Thanks for your efforts and best wishes for future success.
