But again, I want to emphasize that I am not in any way trying to take anything away from Miss Sjerven, who I think is as important as any player in the conference, the Rudy Gobert of the Summit. I just think it is taking something away from some others, including a few of her teammates, to just say she's been the best player in the league for three years, no questions, stone cold fact. Arguments can be made.

Some, sure. But it seems borderline insane to argue that somebody is the best player in the conference and then say that you aren't going to pay attention to the two games against the other best player because you don't like the location. I'd give it a lot more weight if one of those games had been played at home. It's crazy to not acknowledge the fact that the 2 state games are the only matchups in the conference season where home court has any real effect for either team. To not consider that an advantage for one player is ridiculous.

I think you fail to understand what playing on the road vs. playing at home actually means for great basketball players.

OK Arguments to make against Selland vs. Sjerven: - Selland really only has to play on 1 end off the floor, Sjerven excels at both ends - Selland scores a lot because the 2nd best scorer on her team isn't a great option, Sjerven shares scoring with 2 others - Selland has the ball in her hands multiple times on every possession, Sjerven doesn't get that opportunity, but is more effective when she does get the ball - ** Selland didn't win a single post season game last year, and SDSU only has 2 SLT wins in the past two seasons combined with her as the focal point, Sjerven has 6 wins Not OK Arguments: - Selland played 2 home games against USD I would have given POY to Selland last year. Was she the 'best'? That is indeed debatable. Thus the debate. ** As ridiculous as this argument is, a similar one has been offered up when comparing the Yotes 2019-20 team with SDSU's best all-time team.

Selland didn't play in the postseason last year. Which is the only real argument I think you can make against her. Durability. In terms of actual on-court production, when healthy, in my humble opinion, she's the best player in the league. Having the ball in your hands a ton is a skill.

I just don't get how that can't be a fair argument to make. USD doesn't lose both of the state games last year if one was played in Vermillion. Period. Even if they were both played on neutral courts, USD doesn't get beat both times. You don't think that affects how great players play?

No. I don’t. Great players often play better on the road. Role players? Younger players? Team as a whole? How refs react to fans? Sure.
But great players? No.

I've got a few beers in me now, but I absolutely disagree. Selland would be the 3rd best player on USDs roster.

Meanwhile, in South Carolina, home of the #1 team in America, this conversation never takes place. Parents, players, coaches, etc... this conversation and these threads and these crowds that follow and support the Yotes and Rabbits illustrate why you want your daughter to play for South Dakota. And yes, South Dakota State too. We're better thanks to each other than we ever were on our brief, lonesome, own.

I'd have no problem if they lost every game and slipped into irrelevance.

This defense is absolutely insane. In the 2nd and 3rd quarters sdsu has a total of 3 FGs and 10 points. 14 turnovers forced so far too.
