You really have to give credit to both teams for being so balanced on the offensive side. USD had 4 of their starters score double digits, and sdsu kept their whole team in the single digits. Balanced all the way around.

Doesn’t count. Happened on the road. And now we're seeing eye to eye.

Coach P improves to 8-6 in this rivalry, and that of course includes having one extra road game in there.
8 years and counting since sdsu won in Vermillion.
By my count the team has now won 35 straight Summit games in the SCSC. 40-1 in the SCSC all-time in league play, 72-5 in all competitions.

Wow. I was stuck at my son’s freshman BB game, so I had to follow the live stats… was hoping for some mid-game posts, but I assume that means you all were at the game!
Go Yotes!
(Now I’ll have to watch the replay…)

I believe one stat will say it all. SDSU field goals 1st Quarter - 8 Remaining 3 Quarters - 8

Amazing overall D! Gave up 3 uncontested 3s in first Q then got that corrected.
Great over all team balance so if I had pick an overall MVP it would be Kyah. Hit 2 open 3s early, played great D on Selland and out muscled her for a rebound causing her to foul!!
Three bunny starters out in 2nd Q so explains some of their 5 pts but also had 5 pts in 3rd Q when those starters were back which shows how great Yote D was!!!

Right now the Coyotes are in their own tier in the league. Over the past couple of years the Jacks can't even stay with the Yotes in Vermillion. In Brookings it has been even and look what happens when the Summit Tourney in played on a truly neutral floor. The Coyotes dominated that Summit Tourney. I am sure the game in Brookings will be a toss up.
There is nothing like this Coyote D. They are so used to the hard work it takes to get it done on that side of the floor. The one thing I like about Dawn and always have is that this team is always looking to get better. They never rest on their laurels. They just get it done.

If anyone wants a fun look down the rabbit-hole of insanity, check out the conspiracy theories on the "other board". They are complaining about how we are going to get away with (and have somehow always gotten away with) aggressive fouling in an unfairly-called game, .... two days before the game has happened.... I'm floored. That is some next-level delusion. They are prepping themselves for complaining about the refs. Spot on. Only reason we won was because of the officiating. They just won't let the poor bunnies play any defense at all against us while we hack away at will. Does anyone else feel bad that we were victorious in such and obviously rigged game? I'm calling QAnon headquarters immediately.

I am not certain anyone on the SDSU fan board actually watched the game. Complaining about officiating when USD was actually called for 4 more fouls than SDSU. Not a word mentioned about 18 turnovers, being outrebounded by 12, 12 offensive given up, getting blocked 7 times. I have to agree with them - the sole reason for the loss was the officiating.

I'd give it a lot more weight if one of those games had been played at home. It's crazy to not acknowledge the fact that the 2 state games are the only matchups in the conference season where home court has any real effect for either team. To not consider that an advantage for one player is ridiculous. OK Arguments to make against Selland vs. Sjerven: - Selland really only has to play on 1 end off the floor, Sjerven excels at both ends - Selland scores a lot because the 2nd best scorer on her team isn't a great option, Sjerven shares scoring with 2 others - Selland has the ball in her hands multiple times on every possession, Sjerven doesn't get that opportunity, but is more effective when she does get the ball - ** Selland didn't win a single post season game last year, and SDSU only has 2 SLT wins in the past two seasons combined with her as the focal point, Sjerven has 6 wins Not OK Arguments: - Selland played 2 home games against USD I would have given POY to Selland last year. Was she the 'best'? That is indeed debatable. Thus the debate. ** As ridiculous as this argument is, a similar one has been offered up when comparing the Yotes 2019-20 team with SDSU's best all-time team. I have to admit that I was wrong about Watson. For shooting 26% from 3-point land, she lit it up this game. - Selland plays decent on the defensive end but no where near Sjerven's level. - SDSU has 5 players that average over 9PPG (on the season) and over 10 PPG in conference play so SDSU is more well rounded on that end. USD has Lamb 16.3, Sjerven 14.1 and Liv 11.9 but after them; the next highest scorer averages 6.6. The top 5 scorers on both teams probably average about the same PPG. That means they both have the same type of options. - Sjerven has a slightly better FG % (46% - 44%) but she does shoot closer to the basket so I don't think she is much more effective. - Selland was injured at the end of last season. That is the main reason SDSU lost in the first round of the post season. (It is sad that happened because SDSU used to be much deeper but they struggled last year). That would be a plus for Selland. He team needed her, who knows what would of happened if Sjerven got injured. Congrats on USD's win. SDSU looked like crap. I would have not left 3 starters on the bench that long and been down double digits at halftime but that it's my decision.

Grown men ripping at some college girl because she's good at basketball. About as pathetic an example of fandom as you'll find.

FYI, the post was about last year (not this season), and meant to show that 2 home games didn't need to be the reason to think Sjerven is "better". I don't think even SDSU fans would vote Selland as POY at this point this year. As for Watson, please see the prior post about her shooting to start the year vs. the past 5 or 6 games (her season stats are very misleading).

Watson had a defensive series early in the 3rd quarter that was awesome to watch, even by her standards. When the replay is out, I'll post the game time, but she beat Selland at the top of the key, beat the post who was trying to screen her, and caused a turnover (though someone else will get credit for the steal). It was awesome.

Dominating performance. Played the bench a bunch. Good to see. Tough early season schedule. Looks like we are getting better. Like to see the upward trend.
