Somebody should remind Zimmer that the 'Yotes have two guards returning this season that kept Arens and Bradley on the bench as freshmen. Trimboli was wearing a walking boot in the picture that USD women’s basketball posted on Twitter from the Apple Orchard event on Saturday.

The previous post of the letter from Coach Nielson mentions that football season ticket sales are ahead of previous years. Does anyone have any further information on this?
I thought a while back it was mentioned that another staff member was hired in the ticket office, so that Chris would be able to focus on selling new season tickets to folks that were not previously season ticket holders. I guess I haven't seen too much promotion for season ticket sales other than on Twitter, but maybe I have missed the new marketing effort. Just looking at seats on goyotes.com, it looks like there are plenty of good seats available for people looking to get season tickets for the fall.
I was just looking on the SDSUFANS.com message board and there is an interesting thread on their game in Brookings against NDSU on Nov 4th. The Jacks fans are trying to buy up all of the seats in the stadium to crowd out the Bison fans. There is certainly a lot of excitement around the SDSU program this year and there will be a lot of great matchups in the MVFC. It is a great time to become a season ticket holder at USD if you have been thinking about it and haven't yet pulled the trigger. It looks like single game tickets go on sale on August 1st for Howling Pack members.

Stat of the day: 4/26 from 3 Team looked so unorganized today. See our play out of a timeout with 8 on the shot clock. Played our worst basketball to end the season. Not good. I would like to know what Russ Rose, Kayla Tetschlag, Aaron Horn, and Alex Antonen were doing during the timeout before we got the shot clock violation. What are they doing on the bench during the game if they aren't planning to help out coach the team?

You can sure ask The Commish about ticket sales for the Summit Tourney, but I would guess he will say the two-year ticket scheme was Wes Hall's idea and the new guy in charge of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority which is Bryan Miller decided to keep the system going. It makes great sense for Bryan Miller, because everyone that likes their seats will get to keep their seats and the Premier Center will be full of enthusiastic fans. As for your question about the State/U games, he will say that the weekends will rotate throughout the years and every 5-6 years these rivalry games will be played when the students are gone for break. As for the times of the games, he will say those are set by each of the Athletic Directors at the individual schools, so that if fans are unhappy that the games overlapped, and if fans wished they could drive to one school, watch the one game, and drive to the other school to watch the second game, that they should ask D. Herbster why the women's game wasn't later in the afternoon (or ask Sell at State why the Men's game wasn't earlier). Is this you Mr. Douple? To clarify, I meant voice frustration and ask for change more than simply getting the history, but either way, the buck stops with him so let him answer. Well you got one of your questions answered at least. 👍

WTH is going on in this thread? The SLT in Sioux Falls may be the best thing to happen to South Dakota athletics ever. Stop complaining, buy tickets, and yell loud. This is embarrassing. With all of the fuss about two-year tickets and seat renewal policies I would have expected at least one person to ask The Commish about it at lunch today, but that didn't happen...

SLT started in Sioux Falls in 2009. USD joined the SL in 2011. When did they implement the 2 year rule for the tickets? I honestly do not know. This sale was the first time that fans could buy the 2-year tickets. This was for the 2016 and 2017 tournaments. Summit League Basketball Tournament 2016 Tickets on Sale - End of Sep. 2015 Phase 1 Presale 2015 Summit League Baseball Championship ticket purchasers Begins on September 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Ends on October 2, 2015 at 10:00 p.m. Phase 2 Presale 2015 Summit League Basketball Championship ticket purchasers Begins on September 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Ends on October 2, 2015 at 10:00 p.m. Phase 3 General On Sale Begins on October 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

Maybe this ridiculous set-up can be asked of Commissioner Douple when he speaks at Lunch With The U. Along with the crazy-ass scheduling of State/U games. You can sure ask The Commish about ticket sales for the Summit Tourney, but I would guess he will say the two-year ticket scheme was Wes Hall's idea and the new guy in charge of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority which is Bryan Miller decided to keep the system going. I bought tickets in the original 2-year sales event that took place on September 30, 2015 that were for tickets for the 2016 and 2017 Summit Tournament. The Premier Center offered us the option of renewing our same seats for the 2018 and 2019 tournaments, and the deadline to renew was January 27, 2017.
I would expect that most people that bought tickets in 2015 would have renewed their same seats as these were some of the best seats in the arena. I'm guessing there won't be many seats available in the prime seating area for purchase on March 4th, but I could be wrong.
It is too bad someone didn't try to coordinate this back in 2015. I remember that there were two presales at the time, one for people that purchased Summit Baseball (yes baseball) tickets and one the next day for those that had 2015 Summit all-session basketball tickets. There was lots of chatter on the SDSU board but nothing on this board.

www.argusleader.com/story/opinion/readers/2017/02/20/letter-show-usd-sports-coverage-love/98099288/Nice letter to the editor regarding USD sports coverage. I thought the exact same thing as this person writes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once again, the Argus Leader has not disappointed me. After a recent Saturday University of South Dakota vs. South Dakota State University game, friends gathered to relish the hard fought Coyote victory. It wasn’t long before we were predicting the Sunday morning sports headlines. Would it read, “USD barely manages to pull off a victory”? Or perhaps, “Despite SDSU’s awesomeness, they lose a close one”. The possibilities were endless. So when I read the Sunday bold headline, “Tellinghuisen has career day in loss,” I just chuckled. The Argus Leader can’t help it; just like the parents who have multiple kids, they subconsciously seem to make it about one kid ... their favorite (think SDSU). Even when they give the other kids (think USD) the attention they deserve, they inadvertently make it about their favorite, hence the bold print. Now, I must clarifly something. I harbor no ill will towards SDSU. It is a fine institution with great programs. Some of my best friends are SDSU graduates. SDSU also has a rich tradition of sports teams. I know this because the Argus Leader reminds me of this on a daily basis. Both Mick Garry and Matt Zimmer were at the game that day. The article mentioned by the disgruntled USD fan was written by Zimmer. Frankly I thought the article on Tellinghuisen was very accurate and very well written. What did the OpEd writer expect - Zimmer to go to the game and not write an article? I think that is a little foolish to expect. Here is the article that Mick wrote after the game: www.argusleader.com/story/sports/college/2017/02/11/mooneys-performance-3-lifts-usd-over-sdsu/97739922/ Mick's article was the primary article. Matt's article was a "Sidebar from the SCSC." A sidebar is "a short article in a newspaper placed alongside the main display area, typically containing related information." I think Mick does a nice job covering USD athletics. He was down in Vermillion covering the USD women's game last Wednesday against Oral Roberts which I think shows good dedication to covering our sports teams.

Purely speculation, but there was a very tall young man who came in with his parents and sat 1 or 2 rows directly behind the Yote bench. When the game had finished, once the team completed their trip past the courtside seats, the young man went into the tunnel with the team. How could any potential recruit not be completely impressed. If the new arena isn't enough there is always this game that all potential recruits could be invited to. Imagine if the attendance could just get up to 2500 average per game. If both programs continue the success I would think that kind of an average number would not be that difficult to maintain. I find it baffling when people that don't have season tickets and don't consistently come to games talk about average attendance at home games. On another note, it was awesome to have a big crowd on hand to watch us beat State. There were only 2518 up in Brookings when Daum travelled to victory over our guys earlier in the season. 5265 seems pretty good compared to that attendance number.

I purchased the $6 1 game pass. The first half worked fine; second half not so much. Yes first half was great. Now no audio or video. Score is updating but delayed.

There were two traditions relating to football back in the 60s and early 70s that I remember. The first was immediately after the football game with SD State wherein the student body president of the losing team had to take off their pants and present it to their counterpart at midfield. This was done in Vermillion, but don't know if that was done in Brookings. The other was the Sitting Bull Trophy, which was presented to the winning football team after the annual game with UND. The trophy was a buffalo skull with the dates/scores painted on it. Not sure when both traditions were discontinued. Another tradition that continues to this day involves the consuming of alcoholic beverages before and after athletic games. In the interest of moderation, however, this applied only to football and basketball games, I believe. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sitting_Bull_TrophyRetired 2000 amid controversy involving Native American names and symbols in sports. Started in 1953 by Al Neuharth. I wouldn't mind the trophy game being resurrected, now that we will be back to playing them in 2017 and yearly starting in 2020. We could rename the trophy, if that is an issue with the Sioux Tribe. I would also like to see a travelling trophy just for football with the Jacks. Not sure why we never had one. There is a traveling trophy for SDSU-USD football. It is the little brown jug, and it made an appearance on Midco's Jackrabbit Journal with Tom Nieman after we lost to State last fall. Also, the following thread from Bisonville from 2003 mentions traveling trophies. Post 11 mentions the Sitting Bull trophy and post 16 mention the USD-SDSU little brown Jug. www.bisonville.com/forum/showthread.php?4745-Trophy-game-with-SDSU/page2

The SL could have done a 8 vs. 9 play-in game the past couple years, but didn't. Anyone have any insights as to why? Logistics and travel cost for the winner would probably be a consideration. Not to mention that if you are at the bottom, you are not exactly having a good/fun season that you want to extend. Tom Douple was a guest on one of the Sioux Falls sports radio talk shows the day of the UND announcement. The hosts asked 2 or 3 times about play in games and Mr. Douple said that he liked the current format of the tournament. I would not be expecting a 10 team tournament with play in games.
