I hope we change our schedule methods in the future. The replacement of SIU for Indy State in the conference schedule doesn't help much either. The new formula used for selection to the playoffs is heavily weighted towards W's.

2 ways to go for out of conference games and the annual BCS game: pay for home game against a nonscholarship FCS team such as Valpo or Drake (or hit a home run like the Bunnies did in 2013 by picking up a game against Pioneer League champion Butler) or home and home arrangements against a scholarship FCS team such as Northern Az, UC Davis, etc.

Oregon is obviously going to overwhelm us, and the Montana game is going to be very, very tough to take on the road. They appear to be returning most of their starters, and Ellis Henderson is probably going to once again burn us as we break in an entirely new secondary.
Northern Arizona was a very tough team last year, and we about mounted a big comeback on them with JVM at QB. I feel we would have won if Earl was the starter, and we'll get our chance for revenge in our dome. Not a gimme, but I think we can take them.
Southern Illinois might be hurting after losing their OC, DC, QB coach, and LB/ST coach. Hopefully we can get that one on the road. They've been a solid team the last couple years, but I foresee a decline.
UNI and NDSU will be the conference favorites, and top-5 teams nationally. We'll host both in October, with UNI being the D-Days game. Winning either would be huge. Sandwiched between these two is a date at Missouri State, which I feel is a likely win. Our win against them last year shouldn't have even been close, and it took a colossal meltdown to not beat them the year before. Like our odds in that one.
Youngstown graduates their start QB, Kurt Hess, and I got a feeling we take a hard fought road win. After that we host the Illinois schools. WIU will have to face an entire game against Earl at QB, and ISU won't get the same luck they did last year with basically all their drives starting on our side of the field.
We'll roll into Brookings with the playoffs on the line, perhaps making this a pseudo playoff game for both teams. This year's game was a weird one, neither team ever really seemed to play up to their level for very long. The stakes should be high for both sides in this one.
Non-conference is brutal, and I really hope we add a breather against a lesser D-1 team on our open date between Oregon and Montana. If we add a layup game (which I dearly hope we do) I see us finishing at 7-5 and going 4-4 in the conference, but with a little luck we could very realistically squeeze out another win and sneak into the playoffs at 8-4. The only games I feel that we'll be genuinely outmatched in are Oregon, NDSU and UNI, and a little D-Days magic might balance that last one out.
I know I'm excited for football to start again.

That schedule is brutal. Western Illinois is the only easy game and they'll be improved with their new coach.

Don't forget Mangino left YSU for Iowa State. That is a huge shift (pun intended).

While NDSU has been the best team in FCS the last few years they lose alot from last year's team in a huge senior class and a good chunk of the coaching staff heading to Wyoming. No doubt they have brought in a lot of talent via recruiting but that is not the same Bison team that has won 3 straight. It will be interesting to see how their season develops. They have to come to the Dome, I wouldn't put that game in the L category just yet.

Yes, this is a tough schedule. I see that SDSU is open on the 27th of September. Do you suppose they would come down and play us in the d?

I know you guys are kidding about SDSU playing USD twice in the season. SDSU is trying to pick up another home game.

I do remember back in the NCC when twice a year wasn't uncommon.

I wouldn't want to play any team twice in a season.
