Not sure if serious... You know she was fired from TTU for abusing players, right? No way the U brings her back. It was entirely a joke. But the three quarters of a mil TTU paid out in a settlement makes me wonder about how abusive the abuse really was. That's fair. Either way, she lost her team, and that was an issue she had at Minnie as well. Doesn't mean she's a bad at everything. But ultimately you have to be good at everything to have success. Tough job. Connie Yori is another example of a demonstrably great coach who lost enough disgruntled players to have it ruin her career. Ouch. And Sherri Coale, and Kim Mulkey (although she found a soft landing at LSU), etc. Interesting that this was happening recently, when a rash of firings for abuse happened in men's sports several years ago (Bobby Knight, Mike Leach, Mark Mangino, etc. etc.). Almost like a second wave. Anyway, sorry for the tangent. Hire AJ!

AJ has it good at SDSU, very little competition in his league, almost guaranteed postseason play each year, comfortable salary. He has NEVER proven himself to be someone who wants more or to have the need to prove himself on a bigger stage. There' zero chance he goes to Minnesota, he'll retire at SDSU.

There is a zero percent chance that Minnesota will hire a male to lead their women’s basketball program. Coach Johnston is a very good coach who has the knowledge to succeed at that level but probably not the charisma it would take to promote the program and recruit kids at the power 5 level. He will be more comfortable at SDSU and my guess would be a fish out of water at that level with all the additional responsibilities besides coaching. At the Big Ten level you are more of a CEO and maybe less actual coaching.
I would look at Megan Duffy from Marquette to be in strong consideration and my wild card would be Coach P at West Virginia. Both coaches know power 5 basketball and know Midwest recruiting. My guess is Coach Johnston will remain at SDSU and probably the level where he would be happiest and have his most success.

Johnson would make over double his salary. The big 10 is the best conference for women basketball with great attendance. I think his problem is that they may want a female. Coach P would go there in a minute once Texas and Oklahoma leave the big 12 it will be a weak conference. there could be openings at Mich St and Neb too

Well I am not sure the Big 10 is the best conference in Women’s basketball. Actually if you look at Rpi for all conferences it is the worst out of all power 5 conferences. In fact the Big East is almost caught them. However I do agree the Big ten has lots of money and some programs have great fan support. It is that time of year however where players transfer and coaches get fired. Crazy profession.

.... It is that time of year however where players transfer .... This may be more relevant to our Women's program (and men's). We still have an open scholarship right now... Would love to see us grab a post player.

I can see the Yotes going to the portal, but keep in mind that as of now, there is ONE scholarship available over the next TWO years. Now it's quite possible that one of the players who went through the Covid year may not use their extra year, and they may know that now.
And, if they add a grad transfer, then that scholarship would again be open for 2024.

I think that the administration at the U of M is so full of themselves that they'd never consider hiring a coach from SD. Their most recent MBB and WBB hires were absolute trainwrecks. Two people with zero head coaching experience that fell flat on their face. But they played for the Gophers and apparently that's more important than anything. Craig Smith (MN native) was sitting right there and they still decided to roll the dice on a nobody that had the right ties.
Whoever they hire I'm sure it won't work out.

I have my doubts AJ ever leaves SDSU. I believe it’s been mentioned before, but isn’t his wife a professor at the school as well? Let’s assume she is tenured. Let’s assume she’s fully vested in the SD retirement fund. Let’s assume she makes 6 figures, and we know he’s making $290k. That’s not a bad setup for a family. Why try to get happier than happy?

I think they like Duffy out of Marquette might take 800,000 to get her. Also Jim Flanery name has come up. I guess they will wait until the tournament is over

If Kyah is close to graduating, she could finish up her credits now or over the summer, and go to Minnesota as a grad transfer.
