Dawn also recruited many of the players on the SDSU roster and also some of those who have given SDSU a verbal commitment. AJ is negative recruiter and likely won some battles vs Dawn by emphasizing that she would be leaving USD in the near future (which obviously she did). Now that she likely has a permanent home at Minnesota, some of those same players and verbal commits might be giving the Gophers a look.

Dawn will need better athletes than we recruit to consistently compete. There will be some crossover but not as much as you think. It probably means the best talent in Minnesota will stay in Minnesota. That being said, there are many years where those players aren't power 5 athletes. Those kids will still be available for poaching with promises of playing time. Good for dawn and the gophers. They will ne relevant in no time flat. She is one of the best coaches I've ever seen. Pair her with big ten level talent and the sky is the limit for that program. I was secretly hoping AJ would get the job. He's the only coach I've seen that can match chops with dawn. On one had I agree, on the other I'd like to think we want to be a program that can compete with the Minnesota of the world. They certainly were not interested in playing us the last 6 yrs or so. So we need to be in on similar players. I hope anyway.

Any recruit or family paying a lick of attention knows where women’s hoops stand in Minnesota and the Dakotas at the moment. The Gophers recent record against the Dakotas speaks for itself.

From what I've seen, a good amount of West Virginia fans understand the move, but are very mad about the way she did it. Hearing reports that the team wasn't even told by her and they found out on the bus while no coaches were with the team. I've always heard rumors about how Dawn was behind closed doors, but always put on a good face in public.

It sucks as a fan, but it's business.

It sucks as a fan, but it's business. Definitely a business, fans are merely observers who don't really figure into the equation, but ultimately it's the players who get led on and burned and I find that really sad.

Overall I think the portal is bad for most players since about 50% don't land on a team or those that do have less playing time etc. Also a coach can be a great recruiter and other coaches can just poach players.
Should be limited to grad students and rare special cases.

I thought it was not a good decision to go to WV the big 12 is losing Oklahoma and Texas will be weak conference. The big ten is a great basketball conference. it also has their own network and is bringing in new schools. About 3 years ago I went to a game and they were not very good and their was 5,000 people there. So its a great place to be. I look to for her to bring Watson and JJ Quinerly in also she has girls from Wisconsin they might follow her. with all the freshman coming back and new ones coming in her roster will be full. I don't think she will hurt us she will be going after those 4 star players that Minnesota produces

I don't see Grace L. transferring. This is her team and she knows that they are going to be better next year. I'm curious about what K. Watson will do now. I really doubt that she stays at WV. I can see her following Dawn, but only because of the academics (like that is even looked at anymore). Dawn will straighten that program out. She knows how to coach.

I've always heard rumors about how Dawn was behind closed doors, but always put on a good face in public. The West Virginia girls played Friday midday. The rumors about Coach P being the MN coach didn’t start until that evening, and were quashed shortly thereafter. This was to give Dawn time to talk to her team. She did not leave them on the bus to ride home alone. She did not fly to Minnesota until Saturday afternoon. Use some common sense - She is classier than that.
