Very impressive performance and while a team always looks good when the shots are falling one thing really jumped out for me: according to the stats board, of our first 15 baskets we had 14 assists. Great stat, elcoyote. I was impressed with Umude leading in assists and rebounds. He had a quiet 17, but the defense and leadership was a huge factor. I thought team defense was solid the whole game.

I've got my own judgements on Lee based my disappointment last year (which went much deeper than one game against UND in Sioux Falls), but I'm not gonna hold anything against him this year. This entire season is basically an exhibition. You won't be able to convince me this season is anything else when the team is gonna play like 15 games and every part of that is extremely hampered by safety precautions. Like, we are missing a player because they can't enter the country or something. Get what enjoyment out of it that you can though. I had a lot of fun watching that game Saturday. Agreed. This is a distorted season, I was just trying to say that whatever becomes of the season, these are Coach Lee's guys (minus the "Lock-Down Under") and it's fair to evaluate his recruiting more so than the previous 2 seasons. Any word on Hunter? I hope he is healthy. His skill set is really missed by this team. I was looking forward to his 2nd year in the program.

Like elcoyote looking forward to seeing this team back on the floor, especially a Drake rematch, will help show progress.
I don't disagree with the discussions regarding Coach Lee on this thread, however, I do have patience to see what develops. In his 3rd year, I honestly feel like he's had one 'complete' year of coaching to evaluate, in which he won 20 games, and was upset by a rising program, that shot lights out in the first half of the SLT. This year has been anything but normal with COVID. I'm not making excuses, and this is not a 'throw away' year, so Coach will have to produce with mostly the talent he recruited, COVID or no, but it's early and I'm encouraged to see some signs of improvement game by game.
Nothing I saw at the Dakota Classic that dampens my enthusiasm, I think the Coyotes can compete with the best in this year's Summit League. We shall see!

I had wondered if USD and maybe the ND schools were on a last-minute-if-we-need-a-team list. Committing to the K-State event seems more likely to happen, though I'm still not sure how the quarantine thing works.
Sure nice to see that the state of South Dakota is a national punchline again. "It's not what they call you, it's what you answer to." Maya Angelou, I believe.

Koster - interested to see how his talent adjusts to Mid Major BB. Fuller - seemed to be regarded highly in JUCO circuit.
Will be interested in reading about ANY of the Coyote newcomers, as we do have a few!

3 days in March, starts today!
Hope the defense and the bench bring their "A" game, it will get them through tonight, and help their chances on Monday-Tuesday.
It's been a winding road, but from early in the year I felt this was a 'Tournament' team, still do, let's go Yotes!

Speaking of the 'boot', nice to see Alexi Hempe out of one, and hitting the 3-ball again. I'm not sure about their input for the rest of this season, but it will be fun to watch Alexi and Jeniah the next 3 years!

Oh yeah, this makes 3 wins in the last 5 years in Brookings. State has yet to win in the SCSC. Clinching Summit League titles in their 'home away from home'...

There's a lot to like lately for this team. Bench play is improving, defensive intensity for longer periods of the game, movement and sharing the ball on offense, and FT shooting is solid. Five out of six, since the early season stumble, the one loss a close one on the road to a contender.
I'm looking forward to the second half!

My take on yesterday's game and 'defending the 3s' was they had a good post player and as Coach Lee said at halftime, sometimes you have to pick your poison. I also believe defending the 3s when up by double digits is more of a 'show me' defense, show me you're going to hit them at a high rate, and then we'll come out and defend. That didn't happen in the 2nd half. Although they shot it over 50%, State missed nearly as many 3s (11) as the Yotes attempted (15).
And as for defense, it was State's lack therof, that was the key contributor in my opinion. (As mentioned, they were over-matched.)

Coyotes to the Summit League, "We're feeling fine, thanks for asking."

There seems to be an obstacle to this very easy transaction. Maybe this will help, Stig just send it to:
"Not my rival" Department of Athletics, 206 DakotaDome (why can't we have nice things) 414 E. Clark Street Vermillion, SD 57069
*I would ask for pickup services, as the roads in Brookings can be challenging!

Is the "TRY AND GET IT" original, or is that something Stig just carved in since 11/23/19?
