30 points off the bench is great, but it's only coming from two players. If you ask me, Robinson and Johns are still too timid and don't look for their shots enough (combined 0-0 today). I saw Johns pass up a couple open shots he could have drained from the perimeter, while it seems like they don't even try to get Robinson any looks. Otherwise, those two seem pretty solid defensively and don't make any glaring mistakes. Going forward, the only consistent bench points I can rely on are from Umude and I suspect he will average 8 ppg by the end of the year. The remainder of the bench is a wild card offensively. The bench could get a major boost if Hagedorn returns--I suspect Armstrong would then add the firepower with Umude off the bench.
Their defense and effort is superb and that won't change, but the bottom line is we need Hagedorn back. He will really help our offensive woes (only 42 points off field goals today) due to his ability to score inside and out, which will open up the floor for others. As Lee eluded too we are also severely undersized and need a big body--I thought Harvey would be more of a factor. IF he comes back and is fully healthy I think we get close to the 77-80 ppg mark like we have been the past couple years (currently at 67 ppg). We really need to relieve the pressure from the freshmen on the bench so the normal growing pains are more tolerable, but I feel like we're relying on them too much currently.

I hope they learn how to close out games. They managed to throw away the lead against High Point down the stretch, and now this. We should have won both games, but we seem to be a streaky offensive team. Is there anyway we can sneak Kasperbauer in there for some 3's?

Just saw TreShawn Thurman on ESPN playing for 5th ranked Nevada. It looks as though he is a starter and averaging 10 pp., 6 rbg. I'd say he made the right decision to transfer from UNO.

It's an exhibition. Winning isn't our top priority while the other team dreams of a victory. These games have a way of being closer than they should be. Can't help but notice Harvey did not play. Jech and Hagedoorn aren't playing for a while (if at all this year?). True freshman Matt Johns was the only guy we played over 6'6", he measures in at 6'8". Sounds like Lee is a matchup guy and didn't play Harvey because DWU is a smaller, quicker team who jacks up a lot of three's and that is not Harvey's game. I think we'll see several different lineups this year depending on the style of the opposition.

Why is Henry returning kicks all of a sudden? Why did he just try to fair catch the kickoff at the 10 yard line? Good thing he fumbled it because I think we got an extra yard out of it...cheers to starting off another drive inside our 15 with that great running attack of Nielsen's. There's a new rule this year where if you fair catch within the 10 you get a touchback. Thanks for the info...the wind must really be affecting those kickoffs. That was the second dropped kick I've seen. We got lucky on the first one and got an offsides called on YSU.

Sounds like with the Pride of Norfolk being out, TBM will slide to the 5 and Umude will be at the 4 and Matt Johns will be getting some time along with Harvey. I'm really looking forward to seeing a heavier dose of Stan as he was the recruit I was most excited about last year. He's got good size, athletic, and was a good shooter in HS. This will be a great opportunity for him (and others) to prove himself while Hags is out.

MIck is saying he has a plantar fascial tear and will be out an undetermined amount of time...Jech will be taking a medical redshirt, in addition.

Say what you want about UNI being a total dud of a school, but they absolutely have our number. It’s hard to disrespect a school that is 5-2 against you (soon to be 6-2) since 2010.

It sounds like Kelley will start at PG and Simpson at the 2. I'm curious to see how this turns out, as we won't have much size or shooting prowess in the backcourt along with Peterson. I liked the small ball lineups with Dickerson and Simpson 2 years ago, and think Kelley will be better than Dickerson; however, I believe that was most effective when we needed a spark. I just don't think this will provide enough size or scoring and will be interested to see how Lee melds the two together. Simpson has all the moves and quickness to get open shots and get to the hoop, but he will need to shoot better from 3 and the FT line if he is going to fill some of the void Mooney left behind.

Henry was in uniform, so he must have been a game time decision, considering Nielsen said he's been battling some injuries?

It’s amazing how many people go to a game and it’s like they’re at church. Agreed. Way too many people with their arses firmly planted to watch the game when they could be a part of the game and help determine its outcome. I think people get bored with all the media timeouts and pauses during the games. When you add in all the official timeouts to review plays, it really takes the crowd out of it, especially when many are spent after going hard pregaming. Add in several missed opportunities to capitalize on a variety of sequences (i.e. failed 4th and 1, missed FG's, inability to capitalize after forcing TO's), and fans get taken out of the game some--to that you have to credit MSU. It was a little subdued yesterday, but with good reason.
